What is a Fail Safe Operator?

As described in my previous blog I talked about configuring a fail safe operator after you set up a new SQL instance. This begs the question as to what exactly a fail safe operator is?

Well, it  does exactly what it says on the tin, it will act as a backup for any notifications you have configured when they aren’t able to use the default operators you have configured. If the msdb system database  is corrupted or the database  or it’s tables are unavailable, the fail safe operator will send out notifications until the problems in masdb have been corrected.
